Every airline flying from Entebbe International Airport in 2026, with destinations, route notes and tips for choosing the right carrier for your trip.

Most people judge a trip by what happens once they land. The better ones start earlier, with the choice of airline. That choice decides when you leave, where you connect and how tired you are when you arrive. It also decides what you pay and whether your luggage arrives with you.

If you’re flying out of Uganda, the choice starts at one airport. Entebbe is the country’s only international gateway. Every long journey, from a gorilla-permit honeymoon to a Dubai shopping run, begins on the shore of Lake Victoria. This guide covers who flies from there, where they go and how to pick between them. It’s current as of 30 October 2026, and airline schedules do change.

Entebbe at a Glance

at edited

Entebbe International Airport sits about 34 kilometres south of Kampala’s centre. That sounds close. In practice it isn’t. Wikivoyage’s Entebbe guide puts the drive at about an hour in light traffic and more than two hours when the roads clog. Leave early, especially for a morning departure.

The network is bigger than many travellers expect. One 2025 guide to the airport counted 23 airlines serving 33 destinations across 22 countries. A live look at Flightradar24’s Entebbe page shows the mix on any given day: Ethiopian from Addis Ababa, Brussels Airlines to Brussels, Turkish from Istanbul and Uganda Airlines to Mogadishu and Dar es Salaam.

The carriers fall into five groups: the home airline, the Gulf and Turkish giants, the European flag carriers, the African regionals, and the small operators who fly the short hops. We’ll take them in that order.

Uganda Airlines: The Home Carrier

plane edited

Uganda Airlines is the national airline, and it’s the one that has changed most in the last few years. Its first commercial flight left Entebbe for Nairobi on 28 August 2019 with eight passengers on board. Today it flies an Airbus A330-800neo on its longer routes and serves 17 destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Two more are being added now.

Africa. The regional network is the airline’s backbone. Based on Wikipedia’s list of Uganda Airlines destinations, it includes:

  • Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya
  • Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar in Tanzania
  • Juba in South Sudan
  • Bujumbura in Burundi
  • Mogadishu in Somalia
  • Lusaka in Zambia
  • Harare in Zimbabwe
  • Johannesburg in South Africa
  • Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria

The newest routes. On 27 October 2026, three days ago, Uganda Airlines launched its Accra route. It’s pitched as a gateway for trade, labour and tourism between East and West Africa. Pulse Uganda reports that the service runs four times a week and routes through Lagos rather than flying direct. Kigali follows on 18 November 2026, which would bring the network to 19 destinations.

London. The headline route is London Gatwick, launched on 18 May 2025 with four flights a week. Gatwick’s own announcement described it as the only direct connection between the UK and Uganda. If you want to skip a connection in Doha, Dubai or Addis, this is the route. A late-night arrival in Kampala after nine hours in the air beats a second airport and a four-hour layover.

Asia. Mumbai is on the map. Dubai appears on the list too, but Wikipedia currently marks it as suspended, so check before you build a trip around it. Emirates and flydubai cover that corridor either way.

Caveats. Networks like this change. AeroRoutes reported that Kinshasa service was suspended from late May 2026. It also tracked schedule changes and a leased Boeing 787 filling in on London flights in April 2026. None of that is alarming for a young airline with a small fleet. It does mean you should confirm your route on the airline’s site a few days before travel, not only when you book.

Best for: Regional hops, direct London travel and travellers who want to connect onto other Ugandan routes through one ticket.

The Gulf Giants and Istanbul: Entebbe’s Long-Haul Backbone

For most intercontinental journeys, you’ll go through one of three hubs. They do the heavy lifting, and they’ve been doing it for years.

Emirates

Emirates flies daily between Entebbe and Dubai, according to FlightConnections’ Entebbe route page. From Dubai you can reach most of the world on a single ticket. Emirates is the default choice for travellers heading to Asia, Australia or the Americas, and its big aircraft usually mean more baggage allowance and more food. flydubai, Emirates’ lower-cost sister brand, also appears on Entebbe route lists for the same Dubai corridor. It’s worth comparing when the fare gap is large and you don’t mind a leaner onboard experience.

Qatar Airways

Qatar connects Entebbe to Doha, and it has done so for over a decade. A Wikipedia-sourced history of the airport records daily service starting in November 2011. Doha works well for connections to Europe, North America and South Asia, and Qatar is a Oneworld member, which matters if you collect miles with British Airways or American.

Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines edited

flies Entebbe to Istanbul, and it’s the strongest value play for travellers heading to Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus or Central Asia. Turkish serves more countries than almost any airline on earth, so you can often find a city that no other carrier reaches without two stops. It’s a Star Alliance member.

Air Arabia

Air Arabia edited

has also been listed on the Sharjah route, according to Wikiwand’s summary of the airport. It’s a low-fare option for Gulf-bound travellers and workers.

Best for: Anyone going beyond Africa. Pick by destination, then by fare, then by alliance if miles matter.

Europe: KLM and Brussels Airlines

Two European carriers anchor the north-bound traffic.

KLM

airplane ✈️ edited

KLM flies Entebbe to Amsterdam, and FlightConnections lists it year-round. Amsterdam is one of the easiest big airports in Europe to connect through, with short walks and clear signage. KLM is a SkyTeam member, so it pairs neatly with Kenya Airways and Delta. Many safari travellers from North America use it as their route in.

Brussels Airlines

Brussels Airlines edited

Brussels Airlines serves Brussels, and it also operates through Kigali, as shown in FlightConnections’ listing for Entebbe. Brussels is a Star Alliance hub with strong connections into Germany, France and the rest of continental Europe. If your final stop is a smaller European city, it’s often the neatest option.

The newcomer is Uganda Airlines’ Gatwick service, covered above. For UK travellers, it changes the maths. Before it launched, any trip to London meant connecting somewhere. Now there’s a direct choice.

Best for: Europe-bound travellers who prefer a short connection and a civilised transfer.

Africa and the Middle East: The Regional Network

Entebbe’s African links are what make East Africa a practical region to move around in. A circuit through Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania takes only a few short flights.

Ethiopian Airlines

ethiopian edited

EthiopianAirlines is Africa’s largest carrier, and it flies Entebbe to Addis Ababa and Juba. Addis is the continent’s best connecting hub, with onward flights to dozens of African cities and across to Asia and North America. When you want to reach somewhere like Accra, Lagos or Johannesburg on a single ticket, Ethiopian is often both the cheapest and the simplest. It’s a Star Alliance member.

Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways edited

Kenya Airways links Entebbe and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport. Nairobi is a major hub, so this is the standard route to Cape Town, Mumbai, London or Amsterdam on SkyTeam tickets. FlightConnections says five airlines fly Entebbe to Nairobi directly: FlexFlight, Kenya Airways, RwandAir, Safarilink Aviation and Uganda Airlines. That competition is good news for fares.

RwandAir

9XR WK edited

Rwanda Air flies from Entebbe to Kigali, Nairobi and Juba. Kigali has become an elegant connecting airport, and RwandAir’s routes to West and Southern Africa make it a useful alternative to Addis or Nairobi. If you plan to combine gorilla trekking in Uganda with Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, RwandAir is the logical choice.

Air Tanzania

Tanzania Airbus edited

Air Tanzania serves Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro, per Wikiwand’s listing. That’s the airline for anyone pairing Uganda with Kilimanjaro or a northern Tanzania safari. Precision Air, another Tanzanian carrier, has also operated Entebbe–Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam flights.

EgyptAir

EgyptAir edited

Egypt Air connects Entebbe with Cairo, and the same listing shows it on the Kigali leg too. Cairo opens up North Africa, the Middle East and Europe on a Star Alliance ticket.

Malawi Airlines

Air Malawi edited

Malawi Airways flies to Lilongwe, and Badr Airlines serves Juba, based on Wikiwand’s list. Juba is one of Entebbe’s busiest regional routes, with several carriers competing for traffic. Air Congo, the newer Congolese airline, also lists Entebbe among its destinations.

A note on the Kigali route: FlightConnections shows Brussels Airlines, EgyptAir, KLM, RwandAir and Turkish Airlines all appearing on Entebbe–Kigali. Several of those are likely stops on longer journeys rather than a local shuttle, so check the full itinerary before you assume you can fly that leg on its own.

Best for: Multi-country East African trips, safari add-ons and connections to West and Southern Africa.

Smaller Carriers and Domestic Flights

Not every journey from Entebbe crosses a border. Several small operators run scheduled and charter services inside Uganda, and for travellers they matter more than most guides admit.

BAR Aviation Uganda is based at Entebbe, with a second base at Kajjansi. Its published network included Arua, Kasese, Kisoro, Kihihi, Mbarara, Mweya, Pakuba, Jinja and the Chobe Safari Lodge airstrip. Those are the airstrips that put you at the door of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi and Murchison Falls without a full day on the road. Other names on airline lists for Entebbe include Aerolink Uganda, Eagle Air and Airlink, according to Alternative Airlines’ directory.

A short domestic flight can turn an eight-hour bumpy drive into 70 minutes. For a short trip, that saved time is often worth the extra cost. Baggage limits on small aircraft are tight, usually soft bags only and a modest weight cap, so ask before you pack.

Best for: Safari travellers short on time and anyone heading to the national parks.

How to Choose the Right Airline

A list tells you who flies. It doesn’t tell you who to pick. Here is how we’d decide.

Start with your destination, not your budget. If you’re heading to Europe, compare KLM, Brussels, Turkish and Uganda Airlines’ London route. If it’s Asia or Australia, look at Emirates and Qatar first. For anywhere in Africa, check Ethiopian, Kenya Airways, RwandAir and Uganda Airlines, because they fight hard on price.

Count the total journey, not the flight time. A cheap fare with a seven-hour layover isn’t cheap if it costs you a night’s sleep and a hotel. A fare that looks higher but lands you in Entebbe’s best connecting window can come out ahead.

Think about alliances if you collect miles. Star Alliance covers Ethiopian, Turkish, Brussels Airlines and EgyptAir. SkyTeam covers KLM and Kenya Airways. Oneworld covers Qatar Airways. Staying inside one alliance on a trip adds up faster than spreading flights across all three.

Check baggage rules early. Safari trips come with soft bags, camera gear and often a lot of weight. Domestic carriers are stricter than the big international airlines. Find out the limit before you pack.

Leave a buffer on the way in. Arrive three hours before an international departure, and allow for Entebbe road traffic on top of that. The drive from Kampala is the part of the trip nobody can control.

Verify before you commit. Routes appear, pause and return. Uganda Airlines’ Kinshasa suspension and the Dubai status are good examples of why a quick check pays off.

Booking Tips for Travellers

A few habits save money and stress:

  • Compare fares across at least three carriers for your dates. Even on a route with one dominant airline, the gap can be large.
  • Book flights and ground transport together. An early flight out of Entebbe only works if the transfer is arranged, and a missed pickup can ruin the morning.
  • Pay attention to day of the week. Mid-week departures on regional routes are often cheaper.
  • Keep your passport validity, yellow fever certificate and visa documents in one folder. Airlines can refuse boarding for missing paperwork, and the fix at the desk is rarely quick.

What Entebbe’s Network Says About Where Uganda Is Heading

The mix of carriers on the board tells a story. Ten years ago, the story was mostly Gulf carriers and Nairobi. Today a national airline flies to London and now to West Africa, and regional competition on routes like Nairobi and Juba keeps pushing fares down. Add a growing domestic scene that links the airport to the parks, and Entebbe works as a launch point for the whole region, not only the front door to Uganda.

The best use of that network is to build your trip around it. Fly into Entebbe with one airline, out of Kigali with another, and hop a short domestic flight to see the gorillas in between. That kind of open-jaw itinerary used to be a headache to book. Now it’s routine.

Plan Your Trip with People Who Know the Routes

Choosing an airline is easier when somebody has already flown the route and knows the traps. At Nitah Tours and Travel, we’re based in Kampala, and we book flights, transfers and safari connections for travellers every week. Tell us where you want to go, and we’ll match you with the carrier, the schedule and the ground arrangements that fit.

Which route are you planning, and are you flying out of Entebbe or into it? Send us your dates and we’ll come back with options.

Route information is based on published airline and airport listings and news reports as of 30 October 2026. Schedules change often, so confirm with the airline before booking.
